Wow Where Have I Been?

// December 8th, 2011 // Comments Off // Big JimmyK's Blog

I feel terrible that I have neglected my blog, one should keep up on these things. This year has been a blur for me so there are a couple of things that I have neglected that I hope to get back to and keep up! This year I have launched my small recording studio into a new hemisphere, I have decided to actually  hire out my service’s, up to this point I used the studio for podcasting, making my own radio ads, Ustream and a few projects for my friends. This year I have decided to expand into writing and producing commercial jingles and radio ads for other folks who need this service. I have had a few requests to record some artists needing demo songs that type of thing and I just figure what the hell so I have added some new equipment and software that will help me perform these tasks! I do enjoy this immensely but just haven’t had the time till recently, so here we go. I do not offer mastering capabilities at this point but I can produce a very good quality mp3 or cd mostly directed at the demo market. I have some sources for jingle writers as well as my own talents along that vein. The biggest hurdle at this point is coming up with a good name for the studio, so far all that I like have been used for the same purpose somewhere in the world so I am struggling to come up with a great name that someone hasn’t thought of already. If you have Ideas let me know however check the internet before you present them to make sure someone else isn’t equally as creative with the name as you are. Well time to push on to my next project.

Growing Your Own Produce

// March 22nd, 2011 // Comments Off // Big JimmyK's Blog

I am curious as to how many people grow their own veggies? We have started growing ours in our shop area indoors due to the very short growing season in our area! Yup thats right some seeds, some grow lights, planting soil, shelving with water and we are well on our way to having enough fresh vegetables to sustain our household. I started this winter as a hobby and from a small fear of what was on the leaves of the produce we buy. Actually after reading about the Japan nuclear meltdown I suddenly am very glad that I started this adventure. It may be sooner then we think that growing our own vegetables not only is fun but very crucial to our health. Many vegetables are imported and honestly we don’t know for sure where from, now I don’t know about you but that makes me a bit uncomfortable. There is nothing like the satisfaction of seeing something grow, for me it’s very exciting and comforting and that alone is reason enough for me to continue however anyone can do it. I have watched numerous videos for folks growing vegetables in their bathrooms, laundry rooms and various other small locations so don’t be discouraged by lack of space. The cost is minimal and most plants just keep producing not to mention you can’t beat the taste of fresh vegetables. So that being said I invite you to look into it you might be surprised how much you will enjoy it. Happy planting!

Save Yourself Some Money!

My best friend Dennis ask me to blog about a little discovery I made the other day! Here it is, I just received my new Verizon I Phone 4, 32 g and it is extremely awesome but here is the thing, I received a text message from Verizon stating that I elected to not have their insurance coverage on my new I Phone at five or six dollars per month. I don’t know about you but I have had their coverage before and actually needed to make a claim with their deductible, etc It turned out to be cheaper to just order a new phone on a new contract! Surprised? I wasn’t either after all they are in the business of selling contracts. So when I received my new phone I had the idea to call my insurance company and ask them how I could insure my new phone, the suggestion was that I put it on my homeowners insurance and let me just add this would work on renters insurance as well. So the bottom line is this I was able to schedule the new phone as to not have a deductible, meaning I have full replacement cost insurance with no deductible for $28.00 per year as opposed to basically no coverage with Verizon for $6.00 per month, yup a third the cost for real insurance! This being said my insurance will cover everything except mechanical on the phone itself which is covered by the manufacturer. Lost, stolen, run over, falling in the water all covered. I am a very happy man and I hope this will make you happy as well!

“The Roundman”

No Labels

// December 15th, 2010 // Comments Off // Big JimmyK's Blog

Well here we are just about to the end of 2010! With that in mind I will say I usually refuse to talk politics however there is a new movement called “No Labels” that has really peaked my interest. This movement basically is to put politics aside and just come up with solutions to our economic problems as well as many other problems we are facing in this country and other countries. I truly believe this is the answer, we need to shit can all this right, left or center politics that benefit no one other then the fat cat politicians who really don’t give a damn what happens to the rest of us. Why can’t we take ten of the most intelligent qualified people in America, put them in a room and let them come up with solutions based on the problems not on politics or which side will benefit the most. I know this is probably a dream but we can’t just sit back and do nothing. I would invite all who read this blog to check out No Labels you may find that finally something makes sense!

Sharing Articles I Used To Write For A Local Paper!

// October 25th, 2010 // Comments Off // Big JimmyK's Blog

Back in 2004-2006 I wrote a column for a local newspaper based on humor called “The Roundman Review”. I though it would be fun not only for me to see what I had written and what my take on the world was back then and also to share with you some of the articles that best portray  my personality. Hopefully you will enjoy. We will start with and article I wrote for Thanksgiving, mainly because it’s almost Thanksgiving and this is one of my favorite articles. Here it is!

ROUNDMAN BON APETITE

I have noticed lately that in conversation with friends one major point of interest is the Food Channel and various programs like Emeril Live, 30 Minute Meals with Rachael Ray and so on. I do believe part of the attraction is to try and find positive and up beat entertainment however you must admit there is an underlying attraction to this channel that most of us can’t quite put our finger on.

I’ll be the first to tell you I never thought I would be at coffee with friends and happen to slip out with (hey did you guys see that  for recipe awesome couscous vegan dish with garbanzo beans on Bobby Flays show the other night?) I just can’t help myself, what’s even more surprising is when the response is (why yes I did). Emeril has become a household hero for a lot of us and let’s not forget the BAM! I mean how could you pass up a macho program like Iron Chef, these people are bad ass cooks,  just say it with a deep voice with some authority “Iron Chef” that rings the same tone as the WWF.

Well in light of all this Food Channel rhetoric I couldn’t help but feel the need to share an old recipe that was passed on to me. This very ingenuous recipe has always amazed me is Popcorn Dressing. This recipe has a two fold purpose not only does it serve as a great alternative turkey dressing,  it will make you throw away that cooking thermometer or that little plastic pop up thing that has always made me wonder why you want to cook plastic into your turkey.

Here it is.

  • 1 (1 pound) loaf sliced white bread
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 stalks celery, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons poultry seasoning
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • ½ cup uncooked popcorn

Now stuff your turkey, put it in the oven at 350 degrees for approximately 4 hours depending on weight. This is the cool part, when the popcorn blows the ass out of the turkey it’s done and you’re ready to eat.

The Round Man

Pros and Cons

// August 28th, 2010 // Comments Off // Big JimmyK's Blog

Well folks it has been an interesting summer! We have experienced a fairly good selling season even though all of the negative politics seems to keep us all worried and in fear of what’s to come with the economy. I am very much against expressing my political views or even discussing politics with friends just because it is such a volatile subject in America however I really do believe for the most part we need to ignore most of what the politicians and political news media outlets want us to believe. Yes we are in a recession, it is ugly and it will remain ugly for quite some time but thats not all bad, we were at a point that if something didn’t change our children would be paying $500,000.00 for a mobile home. It had to adjust at some point and now it is. The positive things I have seen with my own eyes is neighbors helping neighbors again, folks actually putting money in saving accounts, folks cutting back on unnecessary spending, families doing family activities such as camping, fishing many of the inexpensive recreation we used to do. Foreign travel has dropped way off, also not a bad thing lets spend the money here in the U.S. where we need it. We can keep this country great all we have to do is go back to the basics. We are going to have to be creative from here on out, the day of getting a job, staying with it for 30 years and retiring with a great pension is over! We can do this, we are intelligent, progressive entrepreneurial folks. We made this country what it is and we can keep it that way.

Spring Is On It’s Way

// February 4th, 2010 // Comments Off // Big JimmyK's Blog

Well after enduring a long cold winter it appears spring is on the way. I personally am very excited to see it come. As I get a bit older the cold weather isn’t quite as inviting as it once was and it seems to dampen my spirits just a touch however the dream of sunshine, warmth, music, motorcycles and green grass perk me right up. I believe this spring and summer are going to be a very exciting time for many of us as we see the economy start to slowly recover, the media maybe make some strides at being more positive and hopefully jobs starting to return. That being said lets all make an effort to see if we can help each other in any way possible. I have said before to every down turn there is always something positive that comes out of it and this one is no different. Folks seem really aware that this is a problem of the masses and we have an obligation to look after each other, neighbors helping neighbors. Put a big smile on your face and count your blessings we are all in this together and thats how we will come out of it, “together”. Heres to a great spring and summer.

Two Great Motorcycle Forums

// August 14th, 2009 // Comments Off // Big JimmyK's Blog

I am a very lucky man to be an owner of two great motorcycle forums, www.kawasakimotorcycle.org/forum and www.motorcycleridersforum.com/forum.  kawasakimotorcycle.org has been around since 2003 has grown to 63,000 members world wide, motorcycleridersforum is just a few months old, we just started it to accommodate non manufacturer specific riders. Even thought both forums welcome riders of all manufacturers we decided that being non specific is helpful. These communities are moderated by some of the greatest people you could ask for, they understand that we want a family friendly atmosphere and help keep both forums fun for the members. We ask all members to leave their troubles at the door and just spend some time discussing motorcycle,riding,touring and having a good time. If riding is one of your passions be sure and stop by one of the forums or both and say hi.
